This prepaid card from Visa offers a good alternative for someone trying to repair their credit score. There are some really nice benefits to owning this card. Possibly one of the best is their Credit Builder service. Anytime you pay a bill with your prepaid card, it is reported to PRBC®. This means that you’ll actually be working towards a better score just by using this card. Few prepaid alternatives offer such service, so if you’re really serious about fixing your score quickly, you’ll want this card. Did I mention that it is also free to pay bills online with the card? Oh right, I didn’t. Well, paying bills online is free. Finally, this prepaid card is listed under Visa’s zero liability plan. If your prepaid card is stolen, you will not be responsible for any of the fraudulent charges you face.
You’ll have the somewhat standard bells & whistles too. These include a free direct deposit system if you want to automatically load your card. You’ll also have access to about 1 million ATMs throughout the world that accept this card. As usual, there are no fees for overdrafts. There isn’t a minimum balance, but you can put up to $10,000 onto the card. Best of all, there aren’t any credit requirements to get one.
Now for the bad part. The fees are a little high in the realm of the prepaid card, but they are clearly spelled out and limited. You’ll have to pay an activation fee if you don’t set up a direct deposit account. There are no annuals fees for the card, but you’ll have to pay $4.95 a month. This means about $60 a year minimum. If you sign up for the premium plan, there aren’t any fees for your purchases, but the classic plan has a $1 fee for any purchase made with the PIN number (Signature based purchases are still free).
To sum it all up, this is a good card for the person who has bad credit and wants to fix it while having a nice prepaid card. If you don’t mind the monthly fees, it is a pretty good option. It’s about as close to a real card as you can get.
